National Love Our Children Day & the Power of Kinship Care

Every child deserves to feel safe, seen, and deeply loved. On National Love Our Children Day, we’re reminded just how important that is. At A Second Chance, Inc., this day holds special meaning as we reflect on the resilience of youth in care and the families who step up to support them.

For many children in the child welfare system, life hasn’t followed a simple path. Youth in care often experience transitions, uncertainty, and challenges that can impact their sense of stability and belonging. But within those experiences, there is also strength, hope, and the opportunity for healing, especially when children are surrounded by people who truly care.

That’s where kinship care plays such a powerful role. Kinship care places children with relatives or close family friends when they are unable to remain safely at home.

These caregivers, including grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings, and even trusted community members, step in with love, familiarity, and a deep commitment to keeping families connected. At ASCI, we see every day how kinship care changes lives.

It looks like a grandmother learning new routines to support her grandchild’s education. It’s an older cousin making space in their home for a younger family member. It’s caseworkers, support staff, and community partners working together to ensure families have the tools they need to thrive. And most importantly, it’s youth who are given the chance to grow up feeling loved, supported, and understood.

On National Love Our Children Day, we celebrate all of it. We celebrate the youth who continue to show courage and resilience. We celebrate kinship caregivers who answer the call without hesitation. We celebrate the power of community because no child should ever feel alone.

Loving our children goes beyond a single day. It’s in the small, everyday moments through showing up, listening, and believing in their potential. It’s in creating spaces where youth feel valued and families feel supported. It’s in the work we do together to ensure every child has a safe and nurturing place to call home.

As we honor this day, we invite you to join us in uplifting youth in care and the families who stand beside them. Whether it’s offering support, spreading awareness, or simply leading with compassion, we all have a role to play.

Because when we love our children, we strengthen our future.
