ASCI Celebrates Dr. Ervin Dyer As A Pennsylvania Humanities “Window Keeper”
At ASCI, we believe storytelling has the power to preserve history, strengthen communities, and create lasting connections across generations. That is why we are proud to recognize Dr. Ervin Dyer following his recognition as one of PA Humanities’ inaugural “Window Keepers” through its statewide civic honors initiative, The Window Keeper: Civic Honors.

As a respected journalist, educator, and community advocate, Dr. Dyer has dedicated much of his work to uplifting Black history, preserving memory, and amplifying the voices and experiences that shape Pittsburgh’s communities. Through his leadership with the August Wilson House and his involvement in storytelling initiatives like PA Humanities’ “Voices of History,” Dr. Dyer continues to help ensure that local stories are not only remembered but valued.
PA Humanities describes “Window Keepers” as individuals whose everyday actions strengthen civic life through storytelling, education, connection, and service. Dr. Dyer’s work reflects that mission by creating spaces where communities feel seen, heard, and connected through shared history and lived experience.
At ASCI, we celebrate leaders like Dr. Dyer who use storytelling as a tool for community transformation, cultural preservation, and collective healing. His continued commitment to honoring the voices and histories of Pittsburgh communities serves as a powerful reminder that every story matters.
