A Peek Into The Community Garden and Kinship!

Our Community Garden is an awesome way for youth and their families to connect! Miss Terri Whitley and her grandson Nysir Ragin-Jones, who is a part of both ASCI’s YES program and Boys II Men, have used their time at the garden to bond and grow, not just fruits and veggies, but also their relationship!

“We look forward to our time in the garden each week as it is helping us bond and grow a stronger relationship,” Terri shares. “Our bond is strengthening through Nysir’s participation in the program. We are thankful for kinship care and ASCI having programs like these,” she continued.

This dynamic duo is a shining example of the agency’s mission and the importance of kinship. Nysir’s perseverance and resilience throughout his life are remarkable. Terri also shows us strength through the way she takes time to invest in her grandson not only caring for practical needs, but his emotional needs as well. It’s important that we take a moment to recognize this awesome pair as they are an example of love and dedication, to the kinship model and to the agency’s mission.

  • This is absolutely an example of the critical work ASCI does for kinship youth, their caregivers, and their birth parents.
