ServicesKinship Care...It’s our purpose!

Introduction

Introduction

A Second Chance, Inc. supports kinship foster care that provides stability and continuity, maintaining a child's cultural identity and contact with their birth family. By placing children in the homes of the birth family's relatives or friends, parents can better concentrate on their efforts to improve their lives and home environments in preparation for eventual reunification.

The FACT program was established in March of 2000, to assist birthparents in attaining the goals needed to reunify with their children. Our staff works in collaboration with the Point of Contact Casework Program and Allegheny County Children, Youth & Families Caseworkers to provide short-term, intensive services to birthparents and their children.

The model of services is based upon the Homebuilder’s Program, in which realistic goals are developed during this period of intervention, focusing on concrete needs, kinship care/family dynamics issues, or concerns such as housing, educational, medical or vocational needs. Birthparents are expected to become empowered to problem-solve more independently over the project duration.

Clients are selected from new referrals and receive 90 days of programming. Each will be assigned a Reunification Specialist and a Reunification Supervisor.
