Introduction

Introduction

A Second Chance, Inc. supports kinship foster care that provides stability and continuity, maintaining a child's cultural identity and contact with their birth family. By placing children in the homes of the birth family's relatives or friends, parents can better concentrate on their efforts to improve their lives and home environments in preparation for eventual reunification.

The Point of Contact program has been established to provide direct services to families serving as kinship foster homes. This program helps these families meet the requirements of foster care set by the Department of Public Welfare, Allegheny County Children, Youth and Families,(ACCYF) and A Second Chance, Inc.

A Second Chance, Inc. program services include:

  • Orientation and training of kinship foster families
  • Approval and certification of kinship foster family homes
  • Monitoring and assessments of family
  • Re-certification of kinship caregivers homes
