As we seek to move our children to safe and thriving, we have initiated our new Child Well-being Transportation and Visitation Plan. This plan not only moves families to provide transportation, but also reduces the trauma felt by all members of the triad, strengthens family ties, and propels the family into healthy self sufficiency.

ASCI believes that kinship caregivers have the primary responsibility to provide for all of the transportation/visitation needs of the child(ren) in their care whenever possible. ASCI will provide support with coordinating and developing of a plan for the transportation/visitation needs of the child in care. More specifically, A Second Chance, Inc. believes that children will experience less trauma when Kinship Caregivers arrange for, participate in, and provide transportation to the following:  

  • ongoing routine and emergency medical, therapeutic, and dental checkups,
  • school and educational programs,
  • social programs,
  • sibling visitation,
  • birth parent visitation,
  • Court,
  • other special needs of the child(ren)

 

In order to facilitate positive connections, aide in timely permanency, and ensure that visitation occurs in the least restrictive and most natural and familiar setting, A Second Chance, Inc. believes that children experience less trauma when Kinship caregivers  participate in the  visitation between the child and their immediate family, and that such visits should occur in the home of the kinship caregiver, whenever possible.  We understand  that this new revisited posture will require training and retraining for the kinship caregiver. The training will equip them to manage the visits in their home and report any concerns that the organization must immediately address. The organization is committed to improving the overall child well-being and we believe that these measures will ensure the same.

Please note, there are two types of transports that we will coordinate:  Open-Ended and Specific. ASCI will schedule all Open Ended transports in collaboration with the members of the triad, others involved in the transport and our time parameters.  Additionally, because we believe that a collaborative approach is in the best interest of the child, we will involve all members of the triad in the transportation process to reschedule specific transports at a time that is convenient to all involved and meets our time parameters as well.  We will advise you of any schedule changes that are made.
