A Second Chance, Inc. (ASCI) is a non-profit corporation established in 1994. Its mission is to provide a safe, secure, and nurturing environment to children who are being cared for by their relatives or a close family friend - formally called "kinship care". ASCI became a subcontracting agency of Allegheny County Children and Youth Services (now called Allegheny County Children, Youth and Families [CYF]) in July, 1994.

   Tamia Mitchell joined A Second Chance in 2014. She currently serves as the Executive Assistant to the Senior Vice President of Child and Family Services, Training and Systems Improvement and Assistant to the CEO for Special Projects.

   Though her main function is supporting the Office of the Senior Vice President, she also serves in many other capacities such as; Support Department Supervisor and committee member for both the Annual Toy Drive and “A Dance for Life.”

   Prior to coming A Second Chance, Inc., Tamia worked at Duquesne University as an Office Assistant for the Office of Residence Life and at Community College as a Senior Secretary for the Dean of Allied Health.  She has served in the non-profit sector for 20+ years and is dedicated to the mission and vision of A Second Chance, Inc.
