A Second Chance, Inc. (ASCI) is a non-profit corporation established in 1994. Its mission is to provide a safe, secure, and nurturing environment to children who are being cared for by their relatives or a close family friend - formally called "kinship care". ASCI became a subcontracting agency of Allegheny County Children and Youth Services (now called Allegheny County Children, Youth and Families [CYF]) in July, 1994.

  Jay is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Carlow University and Southern New Hampshire University where he obtained a Master’s in Communications/Public Relations. He holds a certificate in graphic design from Moore College of Art and Design. His experiences cover a wide range that include the areas of education, child development, marketing, grant writing, theater, television and graphic design.

With an interest and orientation towards the arts, Jay ran his own business and graphic design firm. He consulted with many non-profits during this tenure where he gained expertise in nonprofit marketing, design and events. Some of his more notable achievements include grant awards from Toyota and National Geographic, starting one of the first after-school programs for Pittsburgh Public Schools, A Gene Kelly nomination for stage direction, consultation on a children’s television pilot, writing an original science curriculum and a Best of Philly Award for his design business.

Jay is proud to say that A Second Chance, Inc. gave him one of his first non-profit consulting opportunities when he began to freelance. He is happy to now be a full-time employee with ASCI!
